Winter Wonderland

Winter at Corkins Lodge is a truly magical time. Our wilderness retreat is transformed into a winter wonderland with an amazing amount of snow. Each of our cabins comes with a fireplace or wood-burning stove stocked with firewood to keep you cozy.

Winter in Chama, NM

Each year at Corkins Lodge, the snow starts to fall as early as mid-October. By the end of November, our wilderness landscape is blanketed with beautiful white snow. The snow begins to melt in March and April, and the snowmelt from on top of the Brazos Cliffs creates New Mexico’s Highest Waterfall in the Spring.

Winter is so great at Corkins the New Mexico Tourism Department featured us in this video about snowshoeing. 

Winter Activities

Guests can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the many hiking trails in our backyard. Guests will need to bring their gear as we don’t provide equipment. The nearest winter equipment rental outfitters are at Cottam’s Ski Shops in Santa Fe or Taos, NM (2 hours) or several outfitters in Pagosa Springs, CO (1 hour 20 minutes).

Guests also enjoy making snowmen, having snowball fights, playing board games indoors, and snuggling up in the cabins with a warm fire in the fireplaces or wood-burning stoves.

Winter Trip Planning

Due to the snowpack, we recommend 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles in the winter as they provide an advantage for slippery road conditions. We also encourage guests to shop for groceries on their way.
